Ralphie

Shepherd Mix • Male • Puppy • Medium

Meet our Christmas baby - Ralphie. This poor baby found himself in the unlucky position of ending up at the city pound, BARC, where he was given about a day to make it out alive. You see, he wasn't given any sort of chance to survive because he was wrongly labeled as "feral" and was in horrible shape.  He was picked up as a stray by BARC and as you can see is in awful condition. Ralphie had open wounds and his penis could not retract and was blue and very painful. To make his chances worse, he was very emaciated and had severe mange, leaving him with very little hair and small open wounds and scabs all over his body.

Once we saw him we knew we had to help and immediately scooped him up and got him to our vet. While he was terrified (can you blame him?) and it was claimed you couldn't even touch him, we discovered in less than 24 hours and a little compassion, just the opposite. After only a day at our vet we are able to pet him with no issues and the vets have been able to treat him and manipulate him with no problems. It seems that Ralphie was just in a great deal of pain and very scared. Once he realized that no one was going to hurt him he has come out of his shell.

Our sweet little guy is in one of our most awesome foster homes and doing exceptional.  He's is a grateful little guy. Wags his tail non-stop when you lock eyes with him. A little shy at first but loves meeting dogs and people. Inside the house he loves to chase toys and sometimes play with his foster canine siblings. Rawhides and chew toys are aces! Doesn’t mind if his foster mom reaches for rawhide and takes it away. While he enjoys going on walks he gets very excited when we arrive back home and sleeps through the night in crate. He’s not hyper by any means but gets bored easily, the more toys the better : )

While we can't be certain what type of dog he is, he looks like a German Shepherd that has just been shrunk down to about half size. He only weighs about 20 or so pounds now and will put on some weight as he gets healthy and fills out. While he's a young boy, he likely will not get any bigger because he was so malnourished during his first months at life. He’s only about 9 months or so old.

Overall he is just a sweetheart waiting to bloom and is waiting for that special person to give him the love and security he has never had. Please consider giving this boy a  forever home!  Check him out playing HERE
