Sweet JD has waited for so long, years, to find a real forever home! He's such a sweet and loving boy and very mild-mannered.
When we rescued him, he was a bit on the heavy size. However, he lost the pounds, and has been enjoying his greater mobility. He has special food, and does enjoy his "weight-watchers” kibble supplemented with fruit and veg; green beans, frozen peas, pear - of all things, are great favorites. He isn’t keen on sharing though so eating inside the safety of his crate is a must.
Whilst he can be a bit of a couch potato, JD becomes alive when the leash comes out, and he literally starts his walk with a trot. He soon settles to a conformable walking pace, and has been enjoying a 2 to 3 mile walk, daily.
At home he’s utterly crate-trained. He’ll spend 30 or so minutes sniffing around before choosing to sit back in his crate on his pillow. He’ll even rearrange it to his own satisfaction.
His excess weight has caused him to chew his own paws - possibly in discomfort but we’ve found that offering a treat hidden in a toy provides the perfect distraction.
JD’s other great love is to travel. If he’s allowed, he’ll ride shotgun, smiling from ear-to-ear without offering assistance or advice; he just stays in his sit enjoying the view. He’s a big dog so he’s been learning to use his doggie-seatbelt to keep everyone safe, and so long as he can see out the window, he’s good to go!
